A button bracelet

Whenever I find these bracelets for sale, I have to rescue them!  They were popular in another era: a crocheted band with buttons sewn on.
This one looks like someone has been harvesting the buttons from it -- but still had so many beautiful glass buttons, silver colored metal buttons, and even glass painted with silver, left!  I got it at an estate sale for $1.  Joy!

I was pleasantly surprised to see this photo in a current fashion magazine:
It's by Dolce and Gabbana -- featuring beautiful, fancy buttons!

Reuse, Recycle, Upcycle - Buttons!

Has one of these creative reuse, recycle, upcycle CRAFT stores popped up near you yet?  Oh my goodness, I visited this one today and it was like heaven!
It was as if you were in the sewing/crafting section of your favorite thrift shop and found something amazing for pennies...except, EVERYTHING was amazing and everything costed pennies!
I spent a total of $6 and got all of this:
Vintage Hallmark embossed wrapping paper - perfect for Valentines! - an unopened vintage tissue roses kit, beautiful old card box, NIP Dept. 56 garland...
a bride and groom cake topper that I've been looking for for a project, pretty old pin box...
3 yards of fabric with finished edges -- perfect to make table runners from...
and a bag of all these finished quilt squares, plus extra pieces...
someone worked very hard on these, and most of the fabric is raw silk.  I'm thinking pretty pumpkins!
Not shown: a stack lovely blue deckled writing paper, some large mailing envelopes, and four little scarecrows for Fall decorating.  All for that $6!

I only took a few photos inside because I was so busy looking at all the great stuff -- but they had it all: fabric, findings, beads, yarn, wood, glass, paper, antiques to re-purpose, etc. etc. etc.  I could easily have spent all day there!
Check out the adorable signs on the bins of vintage textiles!
Everyone there was really nice!
And, yes, of course there were buttons!

The shop accepts donations and the proceeds go to a local youth symphony program!  I love it that I now have somewhere to take my buttons, destash crafts and vintage-y things, where I know they'll be treasured and appreciated!

Buttons for a Memorial

I just had the pleasure of stuffing a box full of as many vintage buttons as I could, as a donation to the California Holocaust Education and Resource Center.  The organization is building a memorial to the 6 million Holocaust victims out of buttons and are collecting that many!
In these bags there are some very fun buttons mixed in with some very common ones; all are vintage.
Believe it or not, I managed to get ALL the buttons shown above into the box!
At some point, the Center will add them to their count; I can't even guess how many there are -- but it is definitely in the thousands!
They are only looking for very large quantity donations of buttons; if you can help, contact the California Holocaust Education and Resource Center on their page.  I know they'll be glad to hear from you!
I'm excited to see how the buttons will eventually be used to create the memorial!

Bring in the clowns!!!

I've been painting buttons for a long time and it never occurred to me to paint a clown.. But I recently had a special order for one and decided to do a few more.  They are all 1 1/8" MOP - about the size of a quarter.
  These are all one-of-a-kind.

A Few Goodies...

In this collection there are glass, ceramic, pearl, and plastic buttons.

I found each grouping of buttons in a glass jar
that I bought at a yard sale.
I purchased multiple jars of buttons that day.
I hope you enjoy looking at them!

NEW FLOOZIE FROM MISSOURI

Hi my name is Debbie . I have been reading this blog for a l-o-n-g time, I even did a swap a few
years back.  Like most of us here I started loving buttons when I was a kid. My grandma had a dress that had little black buttons with rhinestones in the middle of them. I thought those buttons were so cool and that's when I fell in love. I love to meet other button lovers and hope to make some new button friends.

Estate Sale Buttons

I stumbled on to a fun estate sale the other day, and was delighted to see a small box of buttons on display!
But, rather shocked to see the price on them: $10 each!  My advice is, don't ever be afraid to ask for a better deal when you're buying vintage anything; in this case, as a Button Floozie you probably know more about buttons and their worth than the average person does.  In my opinion, this lot of mostly plastic buttons (one is glass) were not only not real valuable, but some weren't even in the best of shape.  So, I politely asked the cashier to lower the price.  I told her that rather than $10 each, a fair estate sale price (on the 3rd and last day of a sale) was $5 total.  She agreed.  (I tried to leave behind the box -- but she insisted I take it, too.)
Aren't they fun?  I love the big black one, and the brown one with the scroll-y design on top best of all.  I love older buttons, and these made me real happy.

A One-of-a Kind Button

I really had to share this one
with all you BUTTON FLOOZIES!
It is metal and clear lucite. In the photo it looks pearly, but it is actually clear.
The face in the middle is very detailed. I don't have any information on this unique button.
DO YOU?

Little bag of buttons

I had to rescue this little bag of buttons from the thrift store; I could kind of see there was nothing really special in it...
 but I still couldn't resist!
I'm glad I did; the black and white one on the upper right looks like a buffed celluloid -- but it's just plastic.  Still pretty though!
Let's see your rescues!

Two Of A KIND

I found these 2 buttons in a large jar of mixed vintage buttons. I found the jar in a thrift store. These buttons are made of a brown/black molded plastic. They are to look like wood. They are approximately 1.5 inches round. They look like they belong on a vintage jacket or coat.
